In a mark of respect for Missouri's fallen heroes in law enforcement, Governor Mike Kehoe has announced that the Missouri State Capitol dome and the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial will be illuminated in blue light. This tribute will begin at sunset tomorrow and conclude at sunrise on Saturday. Displaying the blue lights serves as a physical testament to the self-sacrifice of officers who died in the line of duty, according to an official statement by Governor Kehoe.

The Missouri Capitol dome will shine blue this weekend as we honor and remember the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice," Governor Kehoe stated. In his message, he also acknowledged the courage and commitment it takes for law enforcement officers to wear the uniform and face daily dangers. The lighting of the Capitol dome coincides with annual ceremonies honoring the fallen, including the 2025 Candlelight Vigil on Friday and the Memorial Service on Saturday.

Notably, ahead of this year's commemorative events, six names have been added to the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial's Wall of Honor — four officers who died in the line of duty in 2024 and two historical officer deaths recently confirmed. This update brings the total number of honored names to 752. The Wall of Honor serves as a constant reminder of those who served and sacrificed, preserving their legacies within the heart of Missouri's capital.

The recent additions include officers like Independence Police Department's Cody R. Allen and Osage Beach Police Department's Phylicia Carson, both of whom died last year in the line of duty. Historic figures such as Lewistown Marshal Noah Bowles and Webb City Police Department Chief George D. Hooper, whose deaths date back to the early 20th century, are now also inscribed, confirming the value of historical research in honoring past valor.

These memorial events and the blue lighting of the capitol are part of Missouri’s ongoing commitment to recognize the bravery and service of law enforcement officers, a stance embodied in Governor Kehoe's order and ceremony plans. As the capitol dome glows blue against the night sky, it serves as a beacon of tribute for the fallen officers and a visual reminder to the people of Missouri of the dedication and sacrifice made by their law enforcement community.
