Armando Lopez, a 40-year-old resident of Modesto, was denied parole after a hearing at the California Medical Facility Prison in Vacaville. Lopez is serving a 21-years-to-life sentence for a 2006 assault that took place in the Stanislaus County Jail, as reported by the Stanislaus County District Attorney.
On October 20, 2006, Lopez, identified as a street gang member, was involved in an incident where he and others assaulted another gang member, resulting in serious injuries. Deputy District Attorney Amy Neumann said Lopez poses a continued safety risk. While in custody, Lopez has been involved in at least four assaults on other inmates, including one in March 2024 that resulted in another inmate being hospitalized in intensive care, as stated by the Stanislaus County District Attorney.
According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Facebook page, a comprehensive risk assessment determined that Lopez posed a high risk for potential violence if released, leading the Board of Parole to deny his parole. The decision was influenced by the assessment and statements from Neumann, who noted, “Since Inmate Lopez began his incarceration in prison, he has attacked fellow inmates at least four times.”
