Officials at Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) are currently conducting a homicide investigation following the death of an incarcerated individual last Wednesday. Longeno Jones, the deceased person, was found unresponsive in his cell during what seemed to be a routine medication distribution check, as per the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Jones' cellmate, Jesse A. Ferdin, was promptly removed from the cell and has been placed in a restrictive housing unit while the investigation is in progress. Attempts were made to save Jones' life by the staff, after which he was transported to the prison’s triage and treatment area. It was there, at 5:45 PM, that paramedics pronounced him deceased.

The MCSP Investigative Services Unit and the Amador County District Attorney’s Office oversee the inquiry into this incident. In addition, the Office of the Inspector General has been informed of the unfolding events. The Amador Coroner’s office will determine the official cause of Jones' death. Jones, a 51-year-old man, had been serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for a third-strike burglary conviction out of Los Angeles County since July 19, 2007.

Associated with this case is Ferdin, 54, who was sentenced to a twelve-year term for rape with force/violence/fear of bodily injury, as a second striker. His most recent admission to MCSP dates from January 28, 2019, in Alameda County.
