The Department of Justice has laid out the results of a coordinated crackdown dubbed Operation Restore Justice, which has led to the apprehension of 205 individuals on charges related to child sexual abuse as well as the rescue of 115 children, as per an announcement. Spanning across the nation, this operation was a collaborative endeavor, involving the Justice Department's Criminal Division, all 55 FBI field offices, and numerous U.S. Attorneys' Offices—a key factor in the operation's reach and success.

Operation Restore Justice took place over a five-day period, and Attorney General Pamela Bondi, remarking on the effort, said, "The Department of Justice will never stop fighting to protect victims — especially child victims — and we will not rest until we hunt down, arrest, and prosecute every child predator who preys on the most vulnerable among us," in a statement made by the Justice Department website. The FBI played a crucial role, with Director Kash Patel affirming the agency's commitment to child safety by stating, "Every child deserves to grow up free from fear and exploitation, and the FBI will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of those who exploit the most vulnerable among us."

In Wisconsin's Eastern District, two individuals became part of this larger narrative: Troy Schaden, 44, and Victor Vega Rojo, 49, have been charged with respective crimes connected to the possession and distribution of child pornography, according to the Justice Department's report. A search of Schaden's home led to the seizure of electronic devices that contained child sexual abuse material (CSAM), while Vega Rojo's devices were discovered to hold hundreds of images of CSAM, discovered subsequent to the execution of a search warrant at his home.

Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Richard G. Frohling, underscored the importance of continued efforts by federal, state, local, and tribal partners to vigorously prosecute offenders, and the FBI’s dedication was highlighted by FBI Milwaukee Special Agent in Charge Michael Hensle, who insisted that, "The message is clear, the FBI has an unwavering commitment to protecting children against sexual abuse" and "through ‘Operation Restore Justice’ and day-to-day operations alongside our local, state and federal law enforcement partners we’re dedicated to keeping kids safe in our Wisconsin communities," as reported by the Justice Department. Beyond the arrests in Wisconsin, individuals from across the United States were caught up in the operation, including a state trooper in Minneapolis and a former police officer in Washington, D.C., for crimes ranging from the production to trafficking of CSAM.

This law enforcement initiative occurred during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, serving as both a stark reminder of the dangers children face and a testament to the crucial need for ongoing vigilance, community education, and decisive action to protect the vulnerable. The Department of Justice emphasizes the significance of awareness in safeguarding children from abuse, with efforts extending beyond the month of April and remaining a daily commitment to combatting such heinous crimes.
