The City of New Braunfels is set to honor fallen military heroes in a Memorial Day ceremony slated for May 26. In an event that brings together city officials and various local agencies, the New Braunfels Veterans Memorial will become a platform of remembrance for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.
The ceremony, which begins at 8:30am, will feature New Braunfels Mayor Neal Linnartz, veterans' organizations such as the VFW Post #7110 and American Legion Post #179, and representation from the high school ROTC programs. "The City of New Braunfels is honored to be a part of this event commemorating those who have died in service to our great country," Mayor Linnartz declared in remarks shared by the city's official website. He also took the opportunity to encourage residents to join in the event as a way to honor the fallen service members.
There will be a concerted effort to engage the community with cadets from New Braunfels High School and Canyon High School Junior ROTC programs playing a role. The New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, along with groups like the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club and the New Braunfels Knights of Columbus, are also key participants.
At the heart of the ceremony's program are patriotic performances by the NBHS Choir and Band, and an address by guest speaker Retired US Army Reserves Lt. Col. Lisa Peplinsky Jaster. Traditional commemorative activities are also planned, including a rifle salute, wreath placement, and flag lowering.
