Just recently opened, Good God, Nadine, is stirring up the local bar scene with a striking mix of cocktails and an ambiance that's been likened to a Southern garden party thrown by the most outspoken member of your family. The venue, situated on Waugh Drive, springs from the imaginative minds behind Verdegreen Farms, Billy Trainer and Kyle Wiebe, who are no strangers to the Houston hospitality landscape, according to Click2Houston.
They've converted the former Darwin’s Pub space into a three-part symphony of sorts — an indoor bar festooned with tile and brass, an air-conditioned patio, and a garden space meant for those warm Texas nights. In a statement obtained by CultureMap Houston, Trainer expressed their desire for creating a bar that feels like home, regardless if you arrive in flip-flops or decked out. His cocreator, Wiebe, and him have infused 'Good God, Nadine' with a certain nonchalance and casualness that's hard to find amidst the city’s more polished watering holes.
The bar’s cocktail program doesn't disappoint, offering everything from fruity and frozen concoctions to clever riffs on classic drinks. One standout is the Mango Sticky Rice, a clarified cocktail mingling vodka, coconut milk, mango and a touch of pandan leaf. If you lean towards spicier fare, the frozen Serrano Pineapple T&T could be your poison of choice, blending tequila with a kick of pineapple-serrano syrup. This playfulness in the drink menu is a testament to their commitment to 'big flavors, strong drinks, and good energy,' according to press materials cited by CultureMap Houston.
The food menu celebrates regional flavors, with seafood dishes inspired by Southern, Creole, Mexican, and Vietnamese cuisines. From raw oysters and cold-boiled shrimp served three ways to daily specials like pho-spiced pork chops, there’s something for everyone at Good God, Nadine’s. Those looking to unwind after a day's work can swing by for happy hour from 4-7 pm, while others might consider sticking around for late-night vibes, as the spot remains open until midnight. Sundays are expected to get a bit more lively with the addition of brunch in the near future, as per Click2Houston.
