El Paso Independent School District is embarking on a new chapter with fresh faces and renewed leadership following the recent school board elections. As reported by El Paso ISD, the district ushered in trustees Mindy Sutton and Robert Osterland, alongside re-elected board members Leah Hanany and Dr. Jack Loveridge, on May 13, all ready to serve the educational community for the next four years.

In a shift of governance, the EPISD board meeting saw new officers appointed: Leah Hanany taking the helm as President, sitting at the Vice President's seat is Dr. Jack Loveridge, and Alex Cuellar stepping into the role of Secretary. Superintendent Diana Sayavedra has expressed anticipation for the collaborative effort that lies ahead with the board to face pressing district matters. "I look forward to working collaboratively with our board as we embrace opportunities and address challenges to continue to strengthen the district for our students, families, and community,” Sayavedra said, as per El Paso ISD.

The board's weighty tasks consist of policy formulation, budget approvals, and driving a collective vision for excellence in the public schools of El Paso. With the district confronted by a $23 million budget shortfall for the upcoming school year, Sayavedra underlined the necessity of joint effort in governance. "We are committed to academic excellence, transparency and fiscal accountability as we move forward," she said, according to El Paso ISD.

During the transition, the service of outgoing trustees Israel Irrobali and Isabel Hernandez, who have both paved pathways for students, was commended. Championed by Irrobali, initiatives thrived that supported student success and engaged the community. Serving to illuminate the Northeast's needs, Hernandez worked tirelessly, ensuring that the voices of District 4 were heard. In charting a sustainable future for the district, Sayavedra is convinced that stakeholder engagement will remain pivotal. “Together, we will make strategic decisions that will transform El Paso ISD and ensure that that every student has access to the high-quality education they deserve,” she said, as obtained by El Paso ISD.
