Residents of Newnan can expect to more easily find parking at Lynch Park in the near future, thanks to a newly announced expansion project. The City of Newnan marked the official groundbreaking for the project, which aims to connect two existing parking lots and add a significant number of new spots. Local officials, including Mayor Keith Brady, Mayor Pro Tem Cynthia Thomasson, and Council Member George Alexander DuBose, came together with members of the community to celebrate the commencement of construction.
In comments obtained by the City of Newnan's official release, Mayor Brady expressed his thanks to the citizens for their support and underlined the necessity of the project by saying "Lynch Park's parking expansion is due to the great success of the park and it's frequent usage by residents." The expansion is funded entirely through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), with local firms including Comprehensive Program Services, Piedmont Paving, and Columbia Engineering recognized for their incoming contributions to the project.
City Manager Cleatus Phillips, alongside Assistant City Managers Meg Kelsey and Hasco Craver, as well as Beautification Director Mike Furbush, were present as the city turns to break ground on a project that signals more than just additional asphalt and painted lines. It represents a commitment to enhancing a well-loved community space that has, if anything, become a victim of its own success due to its burgeoning popularity among local families and visitors alike.
The project timeline has not been made public yet, but residents are keen to watch the diggers and pavers move in to seamlessly merge current parking facilities into one cohesive, accessible space. As our town's green spaces become increasingly treasured, it is clear that local government is willing to invest not just funds but also forethought into keeping them welcoming and serviceable. "Funded entirely through SPLOST, the new, expanded parking will not only connect the two, separated parking lots, but will include significant additional parking," as noted by the City of Newnan. For Newnan residents, this development is more than a practical improvement; it symbolizes the growth and vitality of their community.
