An incident of road rage led to a shooting and subsequent arrest in York County yesterday. According to WBTV, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. along Highway 5 at Nimitz Road in Smyrna, where deputies quickly took a person of interest into custody. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the altercation.
As law enforcement investigated the scene, traffic was hampered, with the road reduced to a single lane heading towards Blacksburg. Without providing specifics, the York County Sheriff's Office revealed to WCNC that road rage was the initial cause of the conflict, shooting forced the reduction of the highway to a single lane.
The name of the arrested individual has yet to be released pending further investigation. The York County Sheriff's Office described the event as a road rage incident that escalated violently on SC Highway 5, near Nimitz Road and Clarks Creek Circle.
