The City of North Bend has ticked a significant box in its long to-do list with the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) granting official certification to its 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update on April 24. After a rigorous two-year process that included input from various city commissions, committees, the Council, and necessary jurisdictions, North Bend's meticulous planning was recognized for aligning with regional goals and setting a cooperative tone in tackling shared challenges.
With PSRC certification in hand—or more aptly, on paper—the city can now properly vie for federal transportation dollars and program funds within the Regional Transportation Improvement Program, as reported by the City of North Bend. This is no trivial matter. Projects that locals rely on, from parks and utility infrastructure to roads and public transit enhancements, hinge on securing these grant opportunities. Essentially, the city’s planning legwork could turn into tangible rewards for everyone from casual park-goers to daily commuters.
As Josh Brown, PSRC’s Executive Director, stated, "In a growing region, it is essential that jurisdictions work together on shared goals such as mobility, housing affordability and protecting our environment. The city’s plan helps move the region forward in advancing those goals," as noted by the City of North Bend. Mayor Miller celebrated the certification as "a prime example of a healthy workplace, where staff can invest time and careful attention to research, plan and collaborate with our city commissions, committees, the Council, and necessary jurisdictions."
After reviewing the City’s adopted 2024 Comprehensive Plan, the PSRC prepared a certification report summarizing its evaluation and key findings regarding the plan’s compliance. You can read the full report at: https://www.psrc.org/media/3434.
