A box truck blaze and a tractor-trailer fire led to the shutdown of all northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near Clermont, causing significant traffic delays, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incidents took place near mile marker 279, with troopers responding to the scene before dawn.
The incident was reported by ClickOrlando, with a box truck catching fire and leading to the road's closure. The report came in around Wednesday morning, and firefighters tackled the vehicular conflagration, managing to squash the invidious lick of flames before any injuries were reported. Tow trucks arrived, burdened with the task of clearing the charred remains and restoring the flow of traffic.
In a separate, yet concurrent misfortune, as revealed by FOX 35 Orlando, a tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames around 7:41 a.m., also hindering passage on the turnpike. Roadblocks were set up, obstructing all northbound lanes, and emergency services were quickly on the scene, ensuring that the number of injuries continued to be minimal despite the gravity of the situation.
Commuters are urged to seek alternative routes and to stay tuned for updates as FHP continues its investigation into the dual disruptions.
