In the spirit of promoting both environmental sustainability and physical well-being, OKC gears up to mark another Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16, offering local cyclists the dual benefit of skirting vehicular congestion and reveling in a morning of fresh air, with a side of complimentary coffee at Bicentennial Park from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

As the city mobilizes for this eco-friendly initiative, riders can choose to make their journey alone or link up with one of numerous group rides converging on the park, which is sandwiched quaintly between City Hall and the Civic Center Music Hall.

Among the assortment of departure points are the Midwest City Library where the group meets at 6:30 a.m. led by BikeOklahoma, the Plaza District rendezvous at 1759 NW 16th St. hosted by City of OKC, and an ODOT-staffed assembly at 200 NE 21st St., open to the public starting at 7:10 a.m. Notable as well is the Capitol Hill starting line at 2420 S. Robinson Ave., guided by Capitol Co-Op and the Mayor Taylor Cycling Club leading departures from the Lincoln Park Golf Course clubhouse at 7:15 a.m.

In a statement made by the official OKC website, Justin Henry, OKC’s Transportation Program Planner, articulated the community's vital role in this burgeoning movement: "It’s exciting to see the popularity and momentum of Bike to Work Day continues to build, and it’s inspiring how many people, businesses and organizations want to improve opportunities for people to ride their bikes.” Henry emphasized the importance of collective effort in creating an environment where cycling is not only a recreational activity but also a viable mode of transportation.
