As Memorial Day approaches, Oklahoma City residents should be aware of changes to municipal services and transportation schedules, the City of OKC announced. On Monday, there will be no trash or recycling pick-up services, with makeup services scheduled for Wednesday, May 28; however, bulky waste pickup will continue as normal. Furthermore, the city is offering free rides on all RAPID, OKC Streetcar, buses, and OKC PLUS services to honor the holiday.
The OKC Streetcar will run according to its regular timetable, ensuring that residents can move around the city without interruption, but buses and OKC PLUS will follow a weekend schedule. RAPID will offer increased service with 30-minute intervals between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to accommodate the expected demand, but all City offices and non-essential facilities such as the Municipal Court, and the Animal Welfare office, will be closed, the City's schedule details. Payments and transactions can still be conducted online, with specific information regarding bond posting during the holiday available on the city's website.
Families and individuals planning to enjoy the outdoors will still have access to OKC parks, which will be open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the Martin Park Nature Center's outdoor grounds are also available for nature enthusiasts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, those looking to visit indoor facilities including city recreation centers, aquatic centers, and the Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center will find them closed in observation of the day's events.
Additionally, EMBARK’s Transit Center Customer Service and the main 235-RIDE Call Center will not operate on Memorial Day, although the 235-PLUS Call Center will provide support from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details on the holiday schedule and services, residents and visitors can refer to the official City of OKC announcement.
