Oklahoma has taken a major step toward expanding its role in the space industry with the passage of Senate Bill 912. Introduced by Sen. Paul Rosino, R-Oklahoma City, the bill establishes a framework to support growth and investment in the state's space sector. According to a statement from the Oklahoma Senate, Rosino highlighted the state’s existing aerospace capabilities and skilled workforce as key factors in this development.
SB 912 aligns the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority (OSIDA) with the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) to improve coordination and efficiency. Under the bill, the Oklahoma Aerospace and Aeronautics Commission will take on the responsibilities of OSIDA. The commission will expand from seven to nine members, with two new appointments made by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.
Rep. Nick Archer, R-Elk City, who authored the bill in the House, stated that the alignment maintains OSIDA’s focus on space development and ensures proper management of its facilities. The bill is now on its way to the governor for final approval.
