A wrong-way collision on Interstate 85 in Gaston County early on Friday resulted in one fatality and closed the highway for several hours. Belmont Police responded to the incident near mile marker 25 on the northbound side at 1:23 a.m. after receiving reports of a driver traveling in the wrong direction, according to WBTV.
A collision occurred involving a Mercedes Sprinter van and a Hyundai Elantra in Belmont. Police reported that the Hyundai was traveling in the wrong direction. The driver of the Hyundai, Jorge Narino, 23, of Charlotte, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, as mentioned by WCNC.
