
An officer-involved shooting in Tulsa has resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. near 2nd Street and Elgin Avenue, amidst a large gathering where a clash erupted and multiple gunshots rang out, TPD officers identified a man firing into the crowd and pursued him as he fled with a firearm, as reported by KTUL.
During the chaotic events, officers shot a man while he attempted to escape with a semi-automatic pistol, and as they administered aid gunfire persisted among the crowd, as per information from FOX23. A subsequent threat was identified when another armed individual appeared behind the officers; an officer from another position took action, resulting in the second suspect's fatal shooting. At least five other people suffered from gunshot wounds inflicted by the suspects, according to the police.
The Tulsa Police Department, as noted by News9, emphasized the swift police response due to their existing proximity, "We already had a large police presence in the area, so the response was almost immediate," said Lt. Andrew Weeden. The officers present were quickly able to address the initial altercation and subsequent threats.
Following the shooting, the Tulsa Police Department's Crime Scene Unit has been gathering evidence including firearms, casings, and bullets, for an investigation that involves coordination with affected business owners to assess property damage. The officers involved in the shooting have, as is standard procedure, been placed on administrative leave while the investigation proceeds. The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office will review the evidence and the officers' actions as part of this investigative process, the outcome of which is pending according to current reports.
