In a fortunate turn of events in Osceola County, deputies have successfully rescued a 3-year-old boy with mental disabilities who was found chest-deep in a retention pond, after having wandered from his family's backyard while playing on a swing. The child, visiting from New York with his family for his birthday celebration, sparked a large-scale search operation involving air support from the sheriff's office after he was reported missing.
An essential piece of the rescue recounted by FOX 35 Orlando articulated the vital role of a woman who, spotting the child while on a golf cart, made a crucial 911 call. After which deputies quickly acted and reunited the boy with his family, the rescue footage captured with the helicopter hovering above, and the family's relief palpable as they expressed their thanks: "We are very grateful. Thank you, God… thank you sheriff."
Further illustrating the extent of the incident, ClickOrlando featured comments from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office about their Aviation Unit, which eventually spotted the child about 300 yards from his home. Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez discussed the importance of programs like "Project Lifesaver," which offer free GPS tracking bracelets to prevent these potentially disastrous situations.
