The Mid-South is grappling with severe weather conditions, including strong winds, hail, and the potential for tornadoes, disrupting power for Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) customers. Action News 5 reported that as of 10:12 a.m. this morning, over 450 MLGW customers were without power following the storms. The number was significantly higher in the day, with over 3,500 customers experiencing outages as early as 8:00 a.m., and more than 6,100 around 6:00 a.m.

However, efforts to quickly restore power appear to have been partially successful. FOX13 Memphis shared that by 9:45 a.m., the number had decreased to just under 1,000 without power, indicating that MLGW has managed to pivot resources in response to the rapidly evolving situation effectively. At 7:35 a.m., 2,233 customers were still in the dark, underscoring the volatile nature of the weather's impact.

According to an update by WREG, the entire region is under an "Enhanced Risk" for strong storms, with primary concerns being high winds and large hail. Isolated tornadoes have also not been ruled out. They've advised residents to adjust any outdoor plans to stay safe and to brace for the possibility of needing to shelter in a secure location as storms pass through. Motorists are warned of hazardous conditions, including wet roads and reduced visibility.
