Palos Verdes Estates police are investigating a possible attempt to lure a child, reported to have occurred on Friday afternoon, and are appealing to the public to help identify both the alleged perpetrator and a good Samaritan who intervened. According to a statement released by the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and cited by CBS Los Angeles, a 10-year-old boy was approached by a woman in the 2400 block of Via Pacheco as he walked home from Lunada Bay Elementary School around 3:45 p.m.

The boy was reportedly offered a ride by the woman, who insisted she could text his mother, however, he declined her offers and was then aided by a good Samaritan who questioned if the boy knew the woman and upon learning he did not, advised the child to go home while he engaged the driver, the same report indicates that, unfortunately, by the time officers arrived both individuals had left the scene. In a similar account by KTLA, detectives are actively seeking more information about the woman, described as being in her 30s to 50s with a medium build and brown hair, and the man, approximately 70 years old, sporting a baseball cap and black sunglasses, walking a white Labrador retriever.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District has been alerted, as notified by the police department, emphasizing the importance of vigilant communication between parents and their children about such safety concerns. The good Samaritan's actions were also highlighted in the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department's Facebook post, asking for anyone with information to make contact, also offering the option to provide anonymous tips through LA Crime Stoppers. The suspect's vehicle was noted to be a light blue, newer model SUV, similar to a Kia EV9.

Law enforcement remains earnest in their quest to ensure the safety of the community's children, and a continued plea from the police encourages the public's help, stating, "We take the safety of our children seriously and urge parents to remain vigilant, talk with their children about safety, and report any suspicious activity." This urgency was mirrored through both a media inquiry contact provided for Captain Aaron Belda and information leading to identification sought by Detective Neil Sisson, whose contact details can be found in the Facebook announcement. Investigators have yet to provide an update on whether the suspect or the good Samaritan has been located, as the investigation carries on.
