Phoenix is stepping up its game this May with a powerful nod to Mental Health Awareness Month. The City of Phoenix is rolling out a new campaign, "Mental Health Matters," for the first time aiming to erase the stigma and dish out a healthy serving of resources for mental well-being. If you're driving by City Hall, that glow you're seeing? It's green for mental health.
For those looking to get informed and connected, the Human Services Department has got you covered with a community resource fair on Thursday, at the Travis L. Williams Family Services Center. The event kicks off at 10 a.m., wraps up at 1 p.m., and won’t cost you a dime to attend. Let's just say, your mental health toolkit is about to get a serious upgrade.
The numbers are real, people. Last year, a staggering 59.3 million adults in the U.S. battled with mental illness. That’s nearly a quarter of the adult population dealing with conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD – to name just a few. The ripple effect is widespread, touching not just the individuals but their neighbors, workmates, and families, sometimes pushing folks towards substance abuse or worse. But Phoenix isn't sitting this one out — it's shouting from the rooftops that our mental health can't take a back seat.
If you find yourself in rough waters or know someone who does – help’s a call away. Punch in 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or reach out to 211 for social services. Whether it's finding support through SAMHSA or hooking up with local help via Arizona's own Crisis Response Network at 844-534-HOPE, there’s a safety net with your name on it. And if you’re a fan of hitting the keyboard instead, type "HOPE" to 4HOPE and start that chat. For all the details, check out phoenix.gov/mentalhealthmatters, as per the City of Phoenix.
