Taking a step towards inclusivity and celebration, Pierce County is gearing up for a symbolic moment to mark the start of Pride Month. On Tuesday, Executive Ryan Mello will hoist the Pride flag at the County-City Building, anchoring the county's commitment to build a community where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and connected. As reported by Pierce County's official website, the event is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the 1st floor entrance of the County-City Building, with the County Council reading a joint proclamation in their chambers at 3:00 p.m.
Amidst a climate where rights and recognitions are fiercely contested, such acts of visibility serve as beacon for the LGBTQ+ community within the larger Pierce County area. In a statement released by the Pierce County, Executive Mello's commitment to the Forward Together vision was underscored, a vision that aspires to paint a picture of unity and engagement across the multitude of identities that populate the region.
The location of the ceremony, the County-City Building at 930 Tacoma Avenue South, will become a focal point for supporters and members of the LGBTQ+ community seeking to witness the affirmation of diversity and acceptance. The gathering is not only a call to recognition but also a testament to the ongoing efforts to foster inclusion in civic spaces.
Ryan Mello, who leads as County Executive, alongside members of the Pierce County Council, will be present for the ceremony. Members of the public and media are encouraged to attend, with cameras welcomed to capture the spirit of the event.
