A Pittsburg man has been sentenced for his involvement in child sexual abuse material, Contra Costa County Superior Court records show. Ricardo Garcia Perez, age 32, is facing two years in state prison following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). In addition to this prison term, Perez will be required to register as a sex offender for life after his release, an outcome handed down by Judge John Cope.

The ICAC began trailing Perez's online activities in December 2024 when he was found to be distributing abusive material over the internet. Perez was apprehended in January 2025 when a search warrant was served at his Pittsburg home, at which point, he tried to destroy digital evidence. His attempts to evade justice notwithstanding, his fate was sealed on January 28, as the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office filed a four-count felony complaint against him.

In the formal sentencing announcement, District Attorney Diana Becton emphasized collaboration in tackling such abhorrent crimes. "Protecting our children from online predators requires a united front," Becton said, according to the Contra Costa County website. She highlighted the importance of specialized training, forensic tools, and partnership in the ongoing fight against child exploitation.
