The quiet of Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood was disrupted by the dissemination of antisemitic fliers, an act that local police and the FBI are currently investigating. According to WPXI, the offensive literature was encased in clear bags, weighed down with corn kernels, presumably to facilitate their delivery from a moving vehicle. This distribution method suggests an intent to spread this hateful material quickly and anonymously throughout the community.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle and driver in various ways, but a man with red hair seems to be the common link in these accounts. Pittsburgh Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 412-422-6520.
Mayor Ed Gainey offered a stern repudiation of the deeds, stating, "the materials that were distributed in parts of Squirrel Hill today are reprehensible and have no place in Pittsburgh," in a statement detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh. His office is working closely with both law enforcement and representatives from the Jewish Federation to address and investigate this act of hatred.
