A physical confrontation that unfolded at PNC Park after a Pirates game on Sunday night has led to the suspension of a ballpark employee. According to TribLIVE, an argument sparked between two male fans and a female food and beverage employee as the crowd began to disperse. A video on social media captured the subsequent involvement of another gameday worker attempting to intervene.
The altercation quickly escalated, as seen in footage showing an employee taking off his belt and striking a fan. Brian Warecki, senior vice president of communications for the Pittsburgh Pirates, said, "The employee’s behavior was entirely unacceptable, and he was immediately suspended." The employee was seen brawling with a fan after the latter allegedly spat on him. As reported by TribLIVE, no criminal charges have been filed as of yesterday morning, as public safety spokeswoman Eliza Durham stated.
Further details emerge from WTAE, which shares that the video depicts the gameday employee punching the man multiple times in the head and face after the verbal argument turns physical. The same footage appears to show the fan spitting on the employee twice before being struck with the belt. "We are aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred following the conclusion of (Sunday's) game between a PNC Park gameday employee and a guest," a Pirates team spokesperson relayed while affirming the ongoing investigation.
