Representative Adison Richards is making legislative moves that could impact working families and streamline government operations in Washington. According to reports from House Democrats, Richards has already seen two of her proposed bills signed into law, with two additional pieces of legislation awaiting the governor's signature after clearing both the House and Senate.

The first bill now law, House Bill 1788, addresses an imbalance for injured workers, particularly those who are single parents working in tough jobs such as at the Bremerton Shipyard. The new regulation ensures injury compensation is equitable, regardless of family structure. Meanwhile, House Bill 1553, also signed into law, extends dairy inspection programs through June 2031, with a specific focus on Port Orchard operations, safeguarding both consumer health and local jobs, as per the House Democrats.

Still on the governor's desk, House Bill 2047 proposes cuts to spending to fortify Washington against potential federal budget adjustments. "We need to rein in spending and batten down the hatches to prepare for federal cuts to things like Medicaid, early learning, and higher education while addressing our own spending," Richards said, the House Democrats stated.

The other pending legislation, House Bill 1902, aims to tackle complex permitting problems that slow down transportation projects. It passed with overwhelming support from both legislative bodies – the Senate voted 49-0 in favor and the House 94-1. "Excessive regulatory burdens, particularly in permitting transportation projects, contribute to delays and cost overruns that we have to address," Richards told the House Democrats.
