The Anacostia River Festival 2025 is set to bring the community together this Saturday, with a slew of activities and celebration along the river's banks. As the city gears up for the festivities, drivers in the District of Columbia need to prepare for parking restrictions and road closures in the area, slated to be in effect from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM on the day of the event. Details provided by the Metropolitan Police Department on their official website advise residents and visitors to be mindful of the changes for the duration of the festival.
Specifically, Marion Barry Avenue will be off-limits for parking, stretching from Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard to Anacostia Drive, SE. To make it more challenging, the street will also be closed to vehicle traffic, prompting motorists to plan ahead and possibly to choose alternative routes to circumvent the expected disruptions.
Compliance with the temporary regulations is mandatory, with emergency no-parking signs clearly marking the zones where vehicles are prohibited. The Metropolitan Police Department cautions that cars parked in violation of these restrictions "will be ticketed and towed," ensuring the roadways stay clear for festival-goers and emergency access.
With a likely increase in pedestrian traffic, both the Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation urge drivers to proceed with caution. They advise taking into account that navigation through the area "could encounter possible delays," as mentioned in the MPD traffic advisory.
