Rockdale County has launched "Picture Rockdale," a public photo challenge inviting residents to share images that encapsulate the spirit of their community. The event, aligned with National Photography Month, calls upon photographers of all levels to capture and submit photos that represent the distinct character and scenery of the area. As the official announcement details, the month-long initiative is set to explore weekly themes, including the "Natural Beauty of Rockdale," "Landmarks & Legacy," and "Community in Action," with submissions welcomed starting yesterday.
Submission categories cater to the general public and to the younger crowd with a "Youth" segment aimed at kindergarten through sixth grade. By the closing date of May 30, participants are encouraged to share their photos on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X, under the handle @rockdalegagov. Each entry should include the photographer's name, age, if applicable, photo title, location, and a brief caption. Yet, organizers remind participants that submission implies full photo ownership and authorized release for prospective county use.
Among the events, "Pictures in the Park" stands out as a week dedicated to capturing candid moments of residents in their favorite parks and public spaces, starting May 19. It's an effort to showcase the diverse and vibrant life across Rockdale's greenery, as announced by the Rockdale County Government.
Accolades await as selected photographs will not only be a part of the "Picture Rockdale Photo Exhibit & Reception" in August but will also adorn the county's website, social media, and printed publications. Young photographers who win will get a certificate or prize and have their work featured in a special display.
