Rockwall County is set to revamp its Sheriff's Office space, harnessing funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and surplus Jail Bond finances to dodge any new financial burdens on local taxpayers. As per a workshop held last Tuesday, detailed by Rockwall County Commissioners Court's official announcement, this remodel spans an impressive 20,874 square feet within the Sheriff’s Office, with a significant fraction previously sitting idle since the new detention center's inception in 2022.
The project, slated for an eight-month timeline, is designed to unfurl in three segments, smartly planned to let Sheriff's Office employees press on with their vital duties uninterrupted. Sheriff Terry Garrett, in a statement to Rockwall County's official website, said, “The Sheriff’s Office recently completed a necessary jail housing expansion, which left the county with unused space that can be repurposed for operational offices and evidence storage.” This practical transformation advocates for enhanced utility over the allure of erecting fresh structures.
John Stacy, County Commissioner, noted the region's growth and the imperative need for a robust public safety infrastructure. “This project has been a long time coming, and there is genuine excitement throughout the county as we begin this remodel to provide our deputies with the space they need to keep us safe,” Stacy expressed, per Rockwall County's official website.
