A Roxbury man was arrested yesterday afternoon after being caught with a significant stash of illegal narcotics during a traffic stop in the neighborhood, Boston police have reported.
At about 3:37 p.m., officers from District B-2's Drug Control Unit saw 27-year-old Jose Irizarry-Estepan get into a car on Tremont Street. They had a search warrant for him and followed the vehicle as it traveled to Massachusetts Avenue. Police stopped the car near Columbus Avenue and Heath Street after noticing a broken brake light and overly tinted windows, according to a statement from the Boston Police Department.
During the stop, a search of Irizarry-Estepan led to the discovery of multiple bags of substances believed to be fentanyl, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, and marijuana. The officers also found more marijuana and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle's center console, and the second passenger possessed a prescription bottle with contents confirmed as Hydromorphone, among other substances.
Irizarry-Estepan, the Roxbury resident, faces multiple charges that include possession with intent to distribute class A and B substances, this being his subsequent offense on similar charges. The second passenger is also facing a drug possession charge, and, the driver received citations for vehicle code violations, including the poorly maintained brake light and excessive window tint, as well as for carrying an open container of marijuana. The individuals involved are expected to be arraigned at Roxbury District Court.
