The Sacramento Police Department advised motorists to watch for motorcycles as more riders are on the roads during spring. They emphasized the importance of vigilance to help prevent accidents involving motorcycles, as reported by the Sacramento Police Department.

Sacramento Police Sergeant Anna Mahoney said, "Motorcycles may be difficult to spot, so be extra careful before changing lanes," and added, "A simple double take can make a life-saving difference. Motorcycle riders do not have the same protections drivers and passengers do. Let's all do our part to keep each other safe out there." In 2022, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 6,218 motorcyclist deaths nationwide, accounting for 15 percent of all highway fatalities. In California, 634 motorcyclists were killed, a 3.8 percent increase from the previous year, as stated by the Sacramento Police Department.

According to the Sacramento Police Department on their Facebook page, motorists and motorcyclists are reminded to follow safety rules such as wearing a U.S. DOT-compliant helmet with eye protection, wearing sturdy clothing, and practicing defensive riding. Riders are advised to "Always keep your lights on, even during the day" and to add reflective materials to their gear for better visibility. Both drivers and riders are told to avoid distractions and not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This safety effort is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
