In a move that's sure to please both BBQ aficionados and weary travelers, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is set to update its Terminal B with new food and beverage options and expand its parking facilities, as per the city officials. The airport, which has been experiencing a surge in passenger traffic, is taking action to enhance the customer experience and cater to the travel needs of the region.

At the heart of the upcoming changes are the food concessions, which have been designed to reflect San Antonio's local flavors and culinary culture, according to a session with the San Antonio City Council where Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports at the San Antonio Airport System, outlined the planned expansion. This includes a quick-serve version of 2M BBQ, bringing signature brisket and sausage to the departure gates, and The Tasting Room, which will offer travelers a taste of Texas Hill Country with wines from local vineyards such as Becker Vineyards for those looking to indulge or grab something on the go. Additionally, Bakery Lorraine will serve baked delicacies intended to make even the most delayed flights a bit more bearable.

New retail and dining options are also on the cards, with popular chains like Popeye’s set to join the airport’s roster. The chosen food and beverage partners, HMS Host/True Flavors, are poised to ensure that 75% of these concepts have local roots. Saenz told the City of San Antonio, "We’re expanding air service like never before. At the same time, we’re elevating every part of the customer journey."

But it's not just about food; SAT is also preparing for an infrastructure upgrade that includes a new parking structure and a Ground Transportation Center capable of holding up to 2,000 vehicles to streamline mobility and manage increased foot traffic. The structure is being designed with foresight, accommodating the potential future development of an Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing operations area. The firms behind the project, JE Dunn and Marmon Mok, bring extensive experience in constructing advanced parking facilities with local expertise, marking what is being described as a "pivotal moment for SAT," aimed at creating a world-class travel experience, as reported by the city's official website.
