San Antonio residents and visitors making plans for the upcoming Memorial Day should take note of the city's service schedule changes. City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed this Monday in observance of Memorial Day. While the closure affects numerous city services, essential services such as public safety and emergency services will continue uninterrupted. The city will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, May 27, for those looking to access government services or conduct business with the city.
According to a release from the city's official website, police and firefighting personnel will remain on duty to ensure the safety and security of residents during the holiday. The general services will also see some adjustments, the 3-1-1 call center will be operational from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 5 to 11 p.m. to address urgent animal concerns and to report traffic signal malfunctions. Animal Care Officers and Code Enforcement Officers will also be on duty, providing necessary coverage in their respective fields.
Meanwhile, the city has announced a treat for downtown visitors: the on-street parking meters will be on holiday, meaning parking will be free, although this does not extend to off-street City-operated garages and lots. City parks and trails welcome visitors seeking outdoor activities, and a limited number of Fitness in the Park classes will still be taking place. Additionally, select outdoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. for those looking to cool off or enjoy some leisurely swimming on Memorial Day.
On the waste management front, garbage, recycling, and organics will continue with normal collections throughout the week, a relief for residents concerned about potential disruptions to these services. However, the Bitters Brush site at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, will be closed along with the Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center, and, all four Bulky Waste drop-off centers will not be operational on Memorial Day. Closed facilities also include the Central Library, all San Antonio Public Library locations, several community centers, and City of San Antonio administrative offices across various departments.
The city's Municipal Court Magistration services and the San Antonio Police Department's detention center, however, will be open for those requiring their services. For shopping and leisure, the La Villita and Market Square shops remain open to serve locals and tourists alike.
