Chaos unfolded in Oklahoma City’s Midtown District late last night when a shooting at The Collective, a local bar, left multiple individuals injured and caused significant distress among patrons. KOCO 5 reported that authorities confirmed nine people were injured, seven from gunshot wounds and two from glass debris. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near Northwest 10th Street and Harvey Avenue.
According to the police, the violence spilled over from The Collective, where gunshots rang out on the outdoor patio during an apparent fight. KFOR news detailed that emergency response teams, including multiple divisions of the Oklahoma City Police, the OHP, and EMSA, were faced with about 15 minutes' struggle to control the chaotic crime scene upon arriving, as said by Lt. Robert Allen of OKCPD. He was quoted saying, "I’d say it took approximately 15 minutes for the officer to get control of the crime scene due to the amount of people and the chaos."
Several witnesses have recounted the horror, describing the rapid succession of gunfire and subsequent panic. One anonymous witness shared with ABC 17 News, "It was hitting glass, so you see the smoke and then you hear the like little, little, little … I could hear the bullets going through." Reports also mentioned that four victims were seriously injured, yet, according to police, all are expected to survive.
Adding to the night's events, The Collective was hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration and showing the Oklahoma City Thunder playoff game against the Denver Nuggets. As of now, the police investigation is ongoing with no suspects apprehended yet.
