Shelby County Commissioner David Bradford demonstrated his commitment to local services by allocating $37,500 in grants to the Town of Collierville's public departments. During the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, as noted by an official town announcement, the police, fire, and parks departments were each recipients of these funds, provided through the Milton Community Enhancement Grant Program. Bradford emphasized the importance of reinvesting in the community, stating, "I’m happy to return this money back to the citizens of Collierville to support your ongoing projects."
The breakdown of the granted funds revealed that the Collierville Fire Department received $15,000 for the procurement of rescue airbags, essential in emergency rescues where heavy objects need to be lifted and stabilized. Standing as the representatives at the meeting, members of the Citizens Police Association accepted on behalf of the police department, the grants designed to elevate the efficacy of first responders in service to the townsmen.
The Collierville Parks Department was allocated $7,500, intended for the creation of a Collierville Community Engagement Guide and a commemorative logo for "Collierville USA 250," as the nation approaches its semi-quincentennial. Events throughout the year will be unified under this new identity, with its branding to appear on banners along prominent local routes, including the historic district, the Christmas Parade pathway on Byhalia Road, and near Collierville High School on Shelby Drive.
Additionally, the Collierville Police Department is set to receive $15,000, which will go towards purchasing a portable traffic signal system. During the meeting attended by the representatives, a tool that will serve to manage traffic during power disruptions, special occurrences, and road work was discussed. In a show of community spirit and collaboration, the Citizens Police Association has pledged an additional $6,540, securing the system's acquisition at no extra expense to the town.
