Late Monday night, gunfire broke the quiet along a stretch of Elvis Presley Boulevard in South Memphis, leaving one person wounded and police searching for answers.
Memphis officers were called to the 1300 block of Elvis Presley Boulevard around 11:30 p.m., where they found a person suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken from the scene, and authorities have not released the person’s condition.
According to WREG, investigators stayed on scene late into the night as detectives collected evidence and spoke with witnesses. The outlet reports that police did not immediately identify a suspect or release a description.
Police seek tips
The Memphis Police Department told WREG that it is still unclear who fired the shots, and officers are asking anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. Tips can also be submitted online through CrimeStoppers' secure portal.
A stretch with repeated violence
The shooting is the latest violent incident on or near Elvis Presley Boulevard. Earlier this year, a man was killed in a March 28 shooting at a South Memphis gas station, heightening long-standing worries about safety along the corridor. Action News 5 reported that the fatal case also led police to appeal to the public for tips.
