Shelby County Commissioner David Bradford has infused Collierville with a financial boost, allocating a total of $37,500 in grant funding to the town's key services sectors — police, fire, and parks departments. As reported on Collierville's official website, these grants, sourced from the Milton Community Enhancement Grant Program, were officially handed over at the May 12 Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, much to the appreciation of the local departments.
During the presentation, Commissioner Bradford emphasized his commitment to the community, saying, "I’m happy to return this money back to the citizens of Collierville to support your ongoing projects," the Town of Collierville stated. In a time when fiscal prudence is more necessary than ever, the grants serve as a reinforcement of the town's resolve to strengthen its emergency and community services.
The Collierville Fire Department was awarded a substantial sum of $15,000, earmarked for the purchase of rescue airbags — a critical piece of equipment used in emergency rescue operations to lift and stabilize heavy objects, as per the Town of Collierville. This enhances the emergency response capabilities of firefighters, potentially saving more lives in precarious rescue scenarios.
Not to be outdone in civic upgrade, the Parks Department received $7,500. The funds are designated for the development of a Collierville Community Engagement Guide and a "Collierville USA 250" logo, a celebratory marking of the nation’s semi quincentennial. From the historic district to the Christmas Parade route on Byhalia Road and along Shelby Drive near Collierville High School, these new additions are set to adorn banners, adding a layer of unity to the town's event branding.
In a similar vein, the Collierville Police Department was apportioned $15,000 intended for the purchase of a portable traffic signal system, to bolster traffic management during instances of power outages, special events, and when road closures present travel disruptions. To fully fund this acquisition, the Citizens Police Association has pooled an extra $6,540, ensuring its completion without dipping into the town's coffers, the Town of Collierville noted.
