Shelby County is embracing the digital age with a new initiative to get more art and culture into the hands of its residents. Starting May 26 and running through August 1, the "Art For All: Summer Pass" program will provide free access to 12 of the county's museums for students and families – but with a modern twist. This summer, instead of a physical ticket, participants can opt for a digital pass.

The kickoff will be marked by a downtown block party tomorrow, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., hosted by the Mayor's Office of Innovation and Strategic Communications. There will be food trucks and a performance by the award-winning Central High School Jazz Band, according to the county's announcement.

Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris commented on the importance of the initiative: "Since 2020, Shelby County Government has covered the cost of thousands of students to attend our best museums all summer long. This year I have no doubt we will reach even more families with the new digital pass. So far, more than 25,000 students and parents have registered to take part in this entertaining, educational, and free activity for kids this summer," as noted by the county's release.

Residents can look forward to visiting historic and cultural sites like the National Civil Rights Museum and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Each venue provides a unique opportunity to explore the local history and art scene. Blaire Benavides, Shelby County Director of Innovation and Strategic Communications, said about the transition to a digital platform: “Moving this year’s Art For All: Summer Pass to a digital platform has been a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office, the Office of Innovation and Strategic Communications, and the Shelby County IT Department. We can’t wait for families to enjoy our list of attractions all summer.” Details and registration for the program are available through the county's dedicated Art For All webpage, as detailed by the official announcement.
