A high-pressure system northeast of Honolulu is producing moderate to breezy winds through Friday. Winds will shift to east-southeast this weekend and return to east-northeast by Monday with increased strength. Satellite images show low clouds along trade winds and cirrus clouds over the eastern islands. An AIRMET SIERRA warning for mountain obscurations is in effect for Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui and may be lifted later today but could be reissued tonight. An AIRMET Tango warning for moderate low-level turbulence remains in effect through Friday, as reported by the National Weather Service.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect around Maui County and the Big Island until 6 PM HST on Friday due to strong trade winds caused by a high-pressure system. Winds are expected to shift east-southeast over the weekend because of a northwest trough. South-facing shores will have modest surf with a small swell from the south-southwest late Friday into the weekend. East-facing shores will experience rough and choppy conditions for several days. North-facing shores will have small surf with minor northwest energy, as stated by the National Weather Service.
