Residents of St. Johns County looking to declutter their homes of old paperwork have a golden opportunity to do so safely this weekend. A Shredding Event, hosted by St. Johns County Public Works and their solid waste hauler FCC Environmental Services in partnership with Shred-it, is set to offer free document destruction services. Taking place on Saturday, between 9 a.m. and noon, county inhabitants can drop off their confidential documents at two locations: Anastasia Square Shopping Plaza and Player's Community Center, according to the St. Johns County.

The event caters to those wanting to dispose of personal documents like previous bills and paperwork that contain sensitive information. Items that will be accepted include white or colored papers, even those bound by staples or paper clips, and file folders. However, some materials such as 3-ring binders, cardboard, and items generated by commercial activity, will not be accepted. "Shredding paperwork is essential for protecting sensitive information and maintaining privacy, helping prevent identity theft, data breaches, and corporate fraud," Ashley Mickler, Business Manager for the Public Works Department – Solid Waste Division, told the St. Johns County.

This event plays a key role in helping the community prevent identity theft and safely get rid of confidential documents. It also supports privacy laws and responsible disposal. For a list of what to bring, residents can check the St. Johns County's website to be ready for the event.
