The City Council in St. Louis Park has signaled its recognition of the backbone of the American economy, our local entrepreneurs and small businesses, by observing "National Small Business Week" from May 4 – 10, 2025, as reported by the City of St. Louis Park, MN.
For more than half a century, this week has shone a spotlight on the innovators and job creators who fuel the nation's economy, creating approximately two out of three new jobs annually in the U.S., and in St. Louis Park, with over 2,100 local businesses operating, the impact is both palpable and profound with more than half of the U.S. workforce either owning or punching the clock for a small business, according to the city’s proclamation.
Small Business Week takes on added significance in local economies such as St. Louis Park's – the microcosm of the national scene – where small businesses are not just shops and offices, but the very sinews that hold the community's economy together and represent the collective aspirations of its residents.
St. Louis Park officials were not shy in praising the indispensable role these businesses play in enriching the city’s economic and social tapestry, with the proclamation stating, "By promoting National Small Business Week, the City of St. Louis Park continues its longstanding tradition of recognizing its more than 2,100 local businesses and all that they contribute to enrich the economic and social fabric of the community," an aspiration that likely echoes in small towns and cities across the nation.
