Boulder County Parks & Open Space is set to provide Bay Area families with a throwback experience to the late 19th century at the historical Walker Ranch Homestead. According to an announcement, the Summer Heritage Morning event is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 7701 Flagstaff Road. With no cost of entry, visitors can step into the shoes of early European settlers and immerse themselves in heritage crafts and chores.
The event aims to offer a hands-on approach to history. Participants are invited to churn butter, try their hand at shingle making, or engage in old-fashioned laundry practices. These activities not only provide an educational opportunity but also promise a bit of nostalgia-filled fun. As posted by Boulder County Parks & Open Space, “Costumed volunteers will bring the site’s rich European settler history to life through demonstrations, storytelling, and hands-on activities.”
Further attractions include blacksmith demonstrations, log house cooking, and traditional games that echo the past. The general store will also be open, offering a glimpse into the commerce of a bygone era. Guests can freely roam and explore the historic homestead, and friendly guides will be available to share insights into the day-to-day lives of settlers and answer any questions visitors might have.
The event is informal with no registration required, yet interested attendees can sign up to be notified in the event of cancellation. Organizers remind visitors to pack a picnic and a blanket, as seating options are non-existent at the homestead. Also, for the safety and comfort of everyone, pets and bikes are not to seamlessly blend into the historical scene; they're not allowed at the homestead.
