
Sterling Heights is preparing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with events and specials at several local Mexican restaurants. According to the City of Sterling Heights, Las Tortugas Taqueria, run by brothers Al and Jesse Rojas, will feature live music and tequila tastings throughout the weekend. The restaurant is known for its traditional dishes, including beef tongue and goat.
Don Patron Mexican Restaurant will offer a reduced menu during the celebration to serve more customers efficiently. Assistant Manager Gustavo Torres emphasized that all dishes are made from scratch.
Pancho Villa's Mexican Restaurant, a longtime local business, expects a busy day starting with the lunch rush at 11 a.m. Owner Steve Nagi said former employees often return to help during the holiday.
Raíces Mexican Cantina, a new restaurant opened by Maria Aldana, will host its grand opening on May 14. Aldana, originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, uses house-made seasonings in all her recipes.
