Yesterday, a structure fire erupted in Suisun City, leading to the displacement of two families. The Suisun City Fire Department was called to the 700 block of Madonna Drive after reports surfaced of a fence and shed ablaze, dangerously close to two homes. The situation escalated with the reported explosion of a propane tank, compelling a quick response and assistance calls to surrounding fire agencies, per the Suisun City Fire Department.
When crews arrived at approximately 6:40 PM, they were welcomed by heavy smoke and flames that were a threat to residential properties on either side. Fortunately, all residents had evacuated before the fire department's presence was established. Firefighters had to adopt a defensive approach as winds at 10-15 mph exacerbated the fire's reach into the attic of one house and toward another. A Second and Third Alarm were subsequently called to action, summoning around 30 firefighters from neighboring fire departments. Despite their swift and calculated approach, both homes incurred substantial damage, resulting in the displacement of the residents.
The cooperative efforts by firefighting units from the Fairfield Fire Department, Travis Air Force Base Fire Department, Vacaville City Fire Department, and others were highlighted by Suisun City Fire Chief Brad L. Lopez. "This was a fast-moving fire intensified by wind and the proximity of combustible materials and nearby structures," Lopez explained, per the Suisun City Fire Department. "Thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, we were able to contain the fire quickly and, most importantly, ensure that all residents were evacuated without injury."
