Bank heists might seem like the stuff of Hollywood heist films, but they're a stark reality for some, including the regional Wells Fargo on Lakewood Drive in Windsor. On Tuesday at precisely 10:37 a.m., a masked individual decided to assume the role of a robber, slipping inside the bank doors, according to the Sonoma Sheriff's office. The suspect did not brandish a weapon but relied on the quiet threat of a handwritten note, demanding money from a teller before making an unconventional getaway aboard an electric scooter.
The situation quickly escalated, and deputies acted fast, searching the area for clues. Their efforts paid off when they found discarded clothing linked to the incident on Los Amigos Road. As the case became more complex, the Windsor Police handed it over to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Violent Crime Unit. That move proved effective when investigators identified 39-year-old Derrick Lamm of Windsor, who also had an unrelated outstanding warrant.
Lamm didn’t stay hidden for long. Authorities found his car at 65 Shiloh Road and soon arrested him. With a search warrant, detectives searched his apartment and vehicle, finding evidence connecting him not only to the Windsor bank robbery but also to another robbery in Santa Rosa. That second case is still under investigation.
Lamm was booked without bail into Sonoma County jail for robbery charges and the outstanding warrant.
