
A teenage suspect is now in custody following a rash of vehicle break-ins near the campus of Western Michigan University (WMU). The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to a call about suspicious activity at an apartment complex near WMU, where officers observed multiple individuals fleeing the scene. Utilizing drone technology, the police managed to apprehend one of at least three suspects.
According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, an estimated 30-40 vehicles were compromised, primarily targeting those left unlocked. As detailed by FOX 17 News, no signs of forced entry or damage to the vehicles have been reported. Thieves made off with various valuables, including credit cards, identification cards, and cash.
The break-ins allegedly occurred across several neighboring apartment complexes along West Main Street, Drake Road, West Michigan Avenue, and Lafayette Avenue. WWMT specified that the juvenile suspect is being held on an apprehension and detain order in addition to charges related to larceny from automobiles.
