Three men from Memphis have been sentenced to a combined total of over 30 years in federal prison for their involvement in an armed robbery at a gas station in 2021, according to an announcement by Joseph C. Murphy, Jr., Interim United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, in November 2021, Anthony Lewis, 36, Kyle Walker, 22, and Aramis Smith, 34, carried out the robbery. Walker and Lewis entered the gas station while Smith waited in a vehicle outside. Walker pointed a firearm at an employee, and Lewis stood at the door. They stole approximately $100.
A witness reported the incident to police. Undercover officers from the Memphis Police Department located the suspects' vehicle, which crashed near the Hernando DeSoto Bridge after a pursuit. The suspects were arrested following a short foot chase.
All three pleaded guilty. Walker and Lewis also admitted to aiding and abetting the brandishing of a firearm during a violent crime. Walker was sentenced to 125 months in prison in August 2023. Smith received 120 months in February 2024. Lewis was sentenced to 147 months on Thursday last week.
On Thursday, Lewis received an additional 24-month sentence for violating supervised release conditions related to a prior offense. In the federal system, parole is not available.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Memphis Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Greg Wagner and Lynn Crum, with assistance from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney Lewis.
