Three individuals found themselves under arrest for attempted mail theft in Bloomfield Township after their escape vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Malibu, landed in a ditch. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the incident unfolded last Monday, when a 911 call alerted the Bloomfield Township Police of the crashed car near Quarton Road and Wing Lake Road.

The apprehension of the suspects concluded following a foot chase prompted by their stranded vehicle. The subjects, identified by police as Jailyn Joe Jackson, Aliza Armonie Braggs, and Ernell Karhl Ware Jr., attempted to flee on foot, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department. The botched theft and ensuing chase disrupted the tranquility of the neighborhood, with residents reporting the fleeing individuals trespassing across yards, FOX 2 Detroit noted.

In a twist of fate, their criminal endeavor was foiled when a witness, also the initial caller, spotted Jackson engaging suspiciously with a mailbox. As mentioned in a Downtown Publications report, the witness confronted Jackson, asking him what he was doing as he removed a package from a mailbox – a moment interrupted by honking from the Malibu, signaling him to return the package and rejoin his accomplices.

The inept attempt at discretion further unraveled when Braggs, maneuvering the vehicle, miscalculated a turn in a nearby driveway, causing the Malibu to become stuck and thus leading to their desperate flight on foot. ClickOnDetroit added that all three were promptly located by police and taken into custody shortly after their escape attempt.

Following their arrest, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office levied each individual with one count of attempted mail theft, a six-month misdemeanor. The trio was arraigned yesterday, with Braggs granted a $15,000 personal bond and Ware Jr. along with Jackson securing a $5,000, 10 percent bond each, as detailed by Downtown Publications.
