Seattle Police have reported the arrest of three teenage boys following an armed robbery incident in North Seattle, as detailed on the SPD Blotter. The event took place last night when a convenience store on the 12200 block of Aurora Avenue North was targeted by the group.
According to the authorities, the situation escalated quickly with one of the teens stealing boxes of condoms and then fleeing the scene. As he made his escape, a gun was pointed at the store manager by another suspect stationed in the getaway car, ready to assist in the robbery. Running into the night, the underage criminals believed they had outpaced the grasp of justice.
The subsequent distress call from the visibly shaken store manager at approximately 10:00 p.m. activated a swift police response. A loaded shotgun, stolen from Snohomish County, was found along with the vehicle used in the crime, following a successful PIT maneuver by SPD’s Community Response Group, pinning the suspects after they attempted to outmaneuver law enforcement.
In their attempted flight from justice, the suspects' car, with the teenagers inside, reversed, ramming into a patrol vehicle before they were caught. Alongside the arrested boys, three underage girls, aged between 15 and 16, were temporarily detained before being released. The officers' fortitude during the arrest was met with resistant doors being kicked and a cacophony of insults hurled by the teens, who boasted, "being out tomorrow," according to the police report.
While the girls found in the car were let go, the three male suspects have been booked into juvenile detention for robbery, and two of them also for possession of a stolen firearm. They await their fate at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center, as detectives from the Robbery Unit delve deeper into the case.
