Honolulu's forecast shows trade winds bringing showers to windward and mauka regions through the week, with more rain possible as the weekend approaches. The National Weather Service reports that showers will occur mainly during cooler nighttime and early morning hours. Trade winds are expected to stay strong as a high-pressure system northeast of Hawaii weakens and moves south. Showers will primarily affect windward and mauka areas, occasionally reaching leeward regions.
Starting Thursday evening and into the weekend, the subtropical jet south of the islands is expected to weaken and shift east. An upper-level low will develop southwest of the islands, possibly increasing showers, "including across some leeward areas as well," according to the National Weather Service. Early next week, the low is expected to weaken, and ridging will take control, bringing more stable conditions. However, trade winds will continue, with occasional showers mainly affecting windward and mountain areas, especially in the mornings.
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM HST on Thursday for several regions, warning of hazardous conditions for smaller vessels. Surf along east-facing shores is rough and choppy, with swell activity expected to gradually decrease throughout the day. A small south-southwest swell is forecasted for the weekend, as stated by the National Weather Service.
