
Travis County deputies have launched their second homicide investigation of the year following a tragic incident in Austin's Colony. A woman in her 50s was found with multiple stab wounds at a residence on Oliphant St. on Monday afternoon. Despite attempts to save her, she was pronounced dead within half an hour of deputies' arrival. The Travis County Sheriff's Office reported that the suspect is the victim's ex-son-in-law, Ananias Jimenez-Arroyo, 34, who was apprehended later that day following a 911 call from his brother-in-law.
According to the victim's family member who witnessed the attack, the suspect entered the home during the incident, leading to a physical confrontation. The suspect then fled before being reported to authorities by his brother-in-law. After being treated at the hospital, Jimenez-Arroyo was detained by the Austin Police Department and is now in Travis County Jail.
Law enforcement received the initial emergency calls around 4:06 p.m. from concerned citizens near the 14500 block of Oliphant St. Deputies responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to find the victim and immediately administer CPR. Nevertheless, she was declared deceased at 4:36 p.m., according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.
The Austin Police Department was able to locate the suspect at a residence on the 7000 block of Decker Lane following the lead provided by Jimenez-Arroyo's brother-in-law. Jimenez-Arroyo was booked into Travis County Jail at 1:09 a.m. on Tuesday. The swift arrest marks a grim but responsive effort by local law enforcement to bring the perpetrator into custody, as the community grapples with this latest act of violence.
